Mythology and Legend of Amararama
According to ancient Hindu mythology, the Pancharama Kshetras originated after the demon Tarakasura was slain by Lord Kumara Swamy (Kartikeya). When Tarakasura was killed, the powerful Shiva Lingam present in his throat shattered into five divine fragments.
These five fragments fell at different locations across Andhra Pradesh, forming the Pancharama temples. The fragment that fell at Amaravathi became known as Amararama, where Lord Shiva is worshipped as Amareswara Swamy.
